A case of disseminated intravascular coagulation due to Neisseria menigitidis is presented with a literature review.
The patient, 52-year-old house wife was hospitalized with rapidly progressing hemorrhagic diathesis and irreversible shock on Feb. 1974. Dermal necrosis in both upper and lower extremities were noted and gram-negative intracellular diplococci were detected from cerebrospinal fluid, and then massive antibiotics and heparin were administered but died of shock on the third hospital day.
